Teflon is the mark name of poly-tetra-fluor-etheen (PTFE), a chemical connection which is discovered in 1938, by Roy Plunkett of the firma DuPont in the American state New Jersey. In 1949, it was introduced as commercial product. Teflon is etheenpolymeer in which the hydrogen atoms are replaced by fluorine. The polymer has a very large length and is still of the largest molecules.
There are polymers also other with the same trading name and similar properties: per-fluor-alkoxy-polymeren (PFA):
Teflon is a plastic, the plastic with the lowest friction coefficient. It is among other things applied as adversary aanbaklaag in pans, such as Tefal-pan. Although it is said, however, that damaged teflon-laag would be detrimental (carcinogenic) seems this incorrect; anti-aanbak the functioning goes at damage of course, however, partly lost. Still study into possible toxicity of perfluoroctaanzuur is done (PFOA), which is used at the production of Teflon. Teflon is particularly a little reactive and for this reason is used in all kinds of applications for rise and transport of reactive chemicals. The melting point amounts to 327 °C.
Teflon is chemically inert and not toxic, but starts at temperatures above 260 °C in quality reverse go and above 350 the °C will analyze. Thereby the being released decomposition products are detrimental and can even deadly be for birds. At people they can cause griepachtige phenomena. For the comparison, butter and other greases which are used at barges and roast start singe and to smoke as from 200°C. flesh becomes not hotter as a rule than 230°C to burn to occur. Kookgerei that empty on a hot griddle are put can however the temperatures reach where detrimental gases are released. After research in 1959, of the Amerkaanse FDA Teflon was approved for application in food construction equipment. The research showed that the toxicity of at large warming of an empty pan being released fumes smaller was than those of usual to oil
